Efficacy and safety of more intensive lowering of LDL cholesterol¶
One-paragraph summary¶
The Cholesterol Treatment Trialists’ Collaboration meta-analyzed individual data from approximately 170,000 participants in 26 randomized statin trials. More-intensive therapy produced a further 15% reduction in major vascular events; across trials, each 1 mmol/L LDL-C reduction produced roughly 22% fewer major vascular events (CTT 2010, PMID 21067804).
